How To Save Receipts On Walmart App
Editor's note: Walmart's Savings Catcher program is being discontinued in May 2019. Learn more here!
If you use Walmart's popular Savings Catcher feature, there's an important change to how you submit receipts.
Walmart Savings Catcher compares the prices of eligible items that you purchased at Walmart to local competitors and refunds the difference if it finds a lower price elsewhere.
When that happens, Walmart customers get money back in the form of an eGift card to use on future trips.
Walmart Savings Catcher changes are frustrating some shoppers
In an email to shoppers, Walmart announced that Walmart Pay is now the only way to submit your receipts to Savings Catcher as of October 29, 2018.
That means you CANNOT scan paper receipts within the app or submit them using a computer.
Since Clark.com first told you about this change in September, some customers have said they're not happy about it because they either don't have a smartphone or like to pay with cash.
Here's an excerpt of the announcement that was emailed to customers:
"At Walmart, we're committed to making your shopping experience using the Walmart app quicker and more convenient. That's why, on October 29, 2018, our Terms of Use for Savings Catcher will be changing, and Walmart Pay will be the exclusive way to submit your receipt to Savings Catcher. This will allow you to both submit and spend your Savings Catcher rewards within the same Walmart Pay experience. Due to this change, the ability to scan paper receipts within the app or submit via desktop will be discontinued."
How to submit a receipt to Savings Catcher with Walmart Pay
Many Savings Catcher users have already been submitting their receipts with Walmart Pay, which allows you to store payment card information and Savings Catcher rewards on your phone.
Instead of scanning a paper receipt after paying, you'll create an eReceipt using the Walmart Pay scanner at checkout. Here's exactly how it works…
1. Open Walmart Pay and select a payment method (credit card, debit card or gift card)
2. Use Walmart Pay to scan the QR code at the register to generate an e-receipt
3. Tap "Submit Receipt" from the Walmart Pay confirmation page or from your Savings Catcher dashboard on the Walmart app
Important note: If you use cash back apps, Walmart says you can print your e-receipt. Just click on "Purchase History" in the app, then email yourself the e-receipt to print.
Not happy about the changes? How to contact Walmart
We've noticed that these changes haven't been popular with Clark.com readers. To let Walmart know how you feel, you can send a message through the Walmart app.
From the main menu, scroll down to "Give Feedback," select "Savings Catcher" and enter your message.
